The best thing you can do in a home-based business is to not treat it like one. Treating your business as an actual business will not only validate your efforts in your own mind, but it will also show customers, friends, and family that you are serious about your profession. This will bring much needed encouragement.
A few things you can do to make your business more business and less home: First, get into a solid routine. While working from your home may offer a lot of comforts and distractions, you need to make a solid commitment to your business. Set aside specific time each day that you have to concentrate on work. Let family members know that you're not to be bothered. Go to your space, and put in a few solid uninterrupted hours of work. Make sure this time is the same time each day.
Having a set routine and time allows you to be less distracted, and less tempted to waste time doing other, less profitable things (like sitting on the couch, watching TV). Your customers can count on you during those times if they have questions, and at the end of the day, you'll have been able to complete some of the items on your to-do list!
