Selling Your Crafts Online
Promote Your Online Craft Business

If you are selling your crafts online, you might wonder how to promote your website with backlinks. Backlinks are links from other sites that point back to your site. Sometimes they're also called inbound links.

Developing a strategy to promote your website with backlinks is an important part of any plan for selling your crafts online. Important search engines, like Google, will rank your site higher in their search results if you have several quality backlinks.
Search engines view a link to your site as a vote of confidence in the quality of your site. That is, if another website owner feels that your site is so good, they want to provide a link to it from their own site, it's a signal to the search engines that your site is good and should rank well in searches.

Of course, we all want to rank better with important search engines. It's the best way to get free traffic to your site.

When you're searching for inbound links, keep in mind that the quality of the link matters. Your time is better spent getting a few quality inbound links, as opposed to many mediocre backlinks. Ideally, your backlinks will come from non-competing, but related sites (links from unrelated sites just don't carry the same importance with search engines), and will be on pages with few other links.

I've used a couple of great resources that are designed to help you promote your website with backlinks. One is called Value Exchange. Value Exchange is great link exchange program that helps you to find quality relevant, inbound links for your site. You can register for free, and Value Exchange will send you matches for similar sites whose owners are also interested in exchanging quality links.

I have used Value Exchange myself, and not only have I received some great backlinks through the program, I've also connected with some great, like-minded people who own craft related websites. They were wonderful to work with and could even become great partners for future projects.

The other resource that I've found to be absolutely invaluable for developing a strategy for promoting my site through backlincks is the e-book Make Your Links WORK! (the link to download it is about half-way down the page).

Make Your Links WORK! is a free 90 page e-book that provides great strategies to promote your website with backlinks. It covers the topic of promoting your site through backlinks in a level of detail that is far beyond the scope of a single article. It's full of great, practical information on how to obtain the best backlinks (in fact, I've read it twice, and I still refer back to it for tips), and it's written in an easy to understand manner, so there's no need to worry about deciphering jargon if you're new to e-commerce.

Building quality backlinks is an important step in marketing your site and selling your crafts online. With more quality backlinks, your site will rank higher with search engines, and that will translate into more free traffic to your site.
